{"title":"Sand Filters","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSand Filters\u003c\/strong\u003e remove particles as small as \u003cstrong\u003e20 microns.\u003c\/strong\u003e Filter media is relatively inexpensive, but routine backwashing is required and replacing the sand is very labor-intensive. Sand should be changed every 3 to 5 years. Silica Sand is the most common used and easiest to find, also the one we recommend.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBackwashing should be done every 1-2 weeks or when tank is full. When the system is full \u0026amp; plugged up that will cause high pressure reading on gauge and weak flow of water out the return (jet-eye).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e*Always backwash first after a sand change to get ultra fine silt out, and not into the pool!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eHere’s how to backwash\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1) \u003c\/strong\u003eTurn Off the Pump to prevent damage. (Keep water valves open).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e2) \u003c\/b\u003ePress down control valve handle and turn to the “Backwash” setting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e3) \u003c\/b\u003eRestart pump and let it run for 30 sec. - 2 minutes or until the water coming out is clear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e4) \u003c\/b\u003eTurn off the pump and turn valve handle to “Rinse.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e5) \u003c\/b\u003eRestart pump and rinse for 10-30 seconds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e6) \u003c\/b\u003eTurn off pump and turn the valve handle back to “Filter.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e7) \u003c\/b\u003eRestart pump, make sure valves are open, check for proper water flow in the intake (skimmer) and return (jet-eye), double check all settings and look for water leaks before walking away.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli aria-level=\"1\"\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003ePros\u003c\/strong\u003e - Simplest to maintain with periodic backwashing, cost effective.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli aria-level=\"1\"\u003e\n\u003cb\u003eCons\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cspan\u003e - \u003c\/span\u003eLess efficient at filtering very fine particles, \u003cspan\u003erequires sand replacement every 3-5 years, \u003c\/span\u003eheavy and hard to move, water loss from backwashing.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- We also recommend letting your filter system run 24hr\/7days, the few dollars spent on the electric bill is tiny compared to having problems and having to spend hundreds or more on chemicals and\/or a complete water change.
