Collection: Chlorine
Pool chlorine works by killing bacteria, viruses, and other harmful microorganisms that can thrive in pool water. It is cost effective and has been used for decades and is a well-established method for keeping pool water clean and safe.
Chlorine can come in three forms:
- Granular Chlorine: Granular powder that dissolves. (We recommend dissolving powder in a 5-gallon bucket with 4-gallons of water, stir with stick until fully dissolved, then add to pool).
- Liquid Chlorine: Highly effective, fastest acting, easiest to use. Recommend keeping a few gallons on hand!
- Chlorine Tablets: Slow-dissolving and convenient for continuous chlorination through automatic feeders or floating dispensers. (Please don't put in your skimmer basket, it will degrade the gaskets and seals of the skimmer, pump, and filter system faster).
Maintaining proper chlorine levels in your pool is essential for keeping it clean and safe for swimming. Check levels at least 2-3 times a week using a pool water test kit. Ideal levels for chlorine are typically between 1 and 3 parts per million (ppm). Too much chlorine can cause eye and skin irritation and faster gasket, seal, and vinyl liner degradation. While too little can fail to keep the water clear & properly sanitized. Ensure your pool's chlorination dispenser is functioning correctly, dialed at proper settings, and is top off.
Monitor pH Levels: The effectiveness of chlorine is influenced by the pool's pH level. Aim to keep the pH between 7.2 and 7.6 for optimal chlorine performance.
When handling please wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves, goggles, and masks, to protect your skin, eyes, and respiratory system when handling chemicals. Also wear cloths you don't care about, because chemicals will destroy clothing if in contact.
Keep Chemicals out of reach of children and animals!
For most people Chlorine is a just fine. But some individuals are more sensitive to chlorine, experiencing stronger reactions like rashes or exacerbated asthma symptoms. For those we recommend using a Chlorine Alternative like a Saltwater System.
